Welcome to my BLOG
My Monthly Message
I am an educator by profession so I am innately driven with a desire to teach. But so much more than my profession defines me, namely my family and 40 something years of life experience. In this blog, I intend to share some personal experiences and insights. Why you ask? What makes your experiences and story so standout and different than mine? Probably nothing, that is the point. We share so many similar experiences as wives, mothers, professionals, fitness/health enthusiasts…and these experiences have VALUE. They TEACH us something. It’s these relatable experiences that bring us together and want to LEARN from one another.
Perhaps my words will resonate with you, even influence you. Regardless, you will come to learn a little more about me, and in the process I hope you get to learn a little more about YOU.
Years ago, my daughter made an ornament that brings a smile to my face every time I glance at it. It’s a Christmas tree. She was given the triangle shaped tree to decorate and the trunk was added later. The missing trunk may have contributed to the orientation of the tree being slightly “off”. Nevertheless, it is a one-of-a-kind creation. A true treasure. Each and every time I look at it, I am happily reminded of the joy that can be found in the imperfect. The details matter little. The thought, the gift, the pride and excitement that went into making Mommy this special decoration was EVERYTHING! My daughter looks at this now with embarrassment, but I never forget to remind her how much this ornament means to me and how it makes me feel.
I’m reminded to find the joy in the season when I gaze at this ornament. Not to stress over the perfect gift to buy. Not to stress over the decorations that don’t get hung. Not to get hung up over the extra people I may have to fit at the dining room table. These are NOT problems, not real problems. So if and when the holiday stress hits, turn your attention to gratitude. You can’t stress when you take a moment to catch your breath, look around, realize you are surrounded by loving family and friends and so many other blessings.
Let this mindset transfer over into your health and fitness journey. You are fortunate to be able to embark on a journey to fitness and better health. You are fortunate to be healthy enough to exercise and fortunate to be fueled and ready to move!
Perspective changes everything, and while we can still make goals and keep moving on a path to greater self-care and improved well-being, don’t become so rigid in your thinking, your goal setting or expectations about the process. Remember December is 4 weeks. Four weeks to enjoy the season while being mindful and avoiding self-sabotaging behavior. You have goals and a mindset ready for change. Be mindful of the course you are traveling and keep the momentum going. Maybe not full steam ahead but still on the positive path. Enjoy this festive time of year, count all of your blessings and embrace the spirit of giving that accompanies the holiday season.
Yours in Good Health,
